The iPhone app marketplace has been a great success for Apple and independent developers the one drawback that I have heard from some would be iPhone developers is that they find Object-C and XCode awkward. There has been a large number of projects to open up iOS app development to non Object-C programmers. Until recently, my favorite non Object-C approach to building an iPhone app was to use jQuery Mobile with Phone Gap. But using jQuery Mobile does not compare to the power and performance of a native app. Now, I can use Ruby Motion to develop native iOS applications using Ruby.
